Product information "Kenya 'Ol'Ochoy' 250g - portafilter (2)"
On our origin trip to Kenya in January/February 2023 we fell in love with the coffee of the Meteitei Set Kobor cooperative in Nandi County and were keen to get it again from the current harvest. But since all Kenyan coffees have to pass through a state-run auction, something happened that we would never have believed: Chris, our importer at Wertkaffee, who has been bidding well above the market for years to bring "his" coffees our way, was outbid – on several coffees from farms we had visited. On the one hand that makes us happy, because prices at this level are what actually give coffee farmers a living. On the other hand, we didn't get the coffee we wanted.
Luckily, Chris managed to secure the coffee from Ol'Ochoy, the neighbouring farm just a short walk up the hill – where the even higher altitude gives the coffee an even livelier cup. And honestly: who else carries a coffee from a farm where you were allowed to stay overnight and help harvest and process the coffee yourself? Farm owner Paul Lilan is actually a well-known lawyer in Nairobi, but he is deeply committed to the people of his region and helped found the Meteitei Set Kobor cooperative. The coffee is grown entirely under organic conditions; certification is planned.
Farm visited – traditional and organic – coffee: superb! Everything about this one is simply right.
